Publiceerde meerder dichtbundels waaronder "Eerstelingen" (z.j.). Inzijn gedichten, niet zonder talent, is het sociaal engagement sterkvoelbaar. stakingsliedje Viscose 1908. Het gevolg ervan was dat hij nahet beëindigen van het conflict nog moeilijk werk kon vinden. Hij kendeveel ellende, miserie die nog vergroot werd door de geboorte van eendochtertje. Toch verloor hij de moed niet. Hij begon te leuren enverdiende nog enkele centen met het maken van gelegenheidsverzen en liepmarkten en dorpskermissen af om door gezang wat meer te verdienen. Hijleidde een zwervend leven en vond er een hoog genot in. (naar Ach.Brijs)

Devant le notaire Michiels, à Wichelen, le 28.06.1876 il demanda à ses parents l'autorisation de se marier, ceux-ci la lui refusèrent et devant le même notaire le 26.08.1876 il réitéra cette demande à sa mère qui la lui accorda. Ses parents n'étaient visiblement pas d'accord et il ne furent pas présents à la cérémonie du mariage à l'hôtel de ville. Le contrat de mariage fut toutefois conclu devant le notaire Michiels le 14.07.1876. Les témoins au mariage furent Carolus De Wael, relieur, 58 ans, Carolus Michiels, aubergiste, 47 ans, Josephus De Vos, employé municipal, 22 ans et Josephus Schellinck, huissier, 38 ans, tous domiciliés à Alost.
