Hij liep school te St.Niklaas en te Doornik in het Atheneum.
Hij volgde al vroeg zijn vader op in de leiding van een breigoedfabriek,hij was sociaal voelend en dynamisch, behalve een goed zakenman was hijook nog schrijver van vele bijdragen in de pers en bovendien de auteurvan romans met een Vlaams-sociologische strekking. In 1908 werd hijmedeoprichter en voorzitter van het Vlaams Handelsverbond, in ditverband dient zijn strijd voor het Nederlands op de Gentsewereldtentoonstelling (1913) te worden vermeld. In 1914 vestigde hijzich in Den Haag, waar hij voorzitter werd van Volksopbeuring, die veeloptrad voor de krijgsgevangenen. In 1917 riep men hem naar Brussel alseconomisch deskundige, hij werd er lid van de Raad van Vlaanderen, waarook August Borms in zetelde en van de Commissie van Gevolmachtigden,later van de Commissie van Zaakgelastigden. Hij trad krachtdadig optegenover de Duitsers, waardoor hij de leiding kreeg van deKolenverdeling van Vlaanderen. In november 1918 week hij uit naar DenHaag, waar hij de hulpbehoevende activisten hielp.
Na de oorlog verloor hij een deel van vermogen, waarop hij in het beginvan 1920 uitweek naar Duitsland, waar hij een landgoed kocht. Daarnaverhuisde hij naar Dresden, waar hij terugkeerde tot het textielvak,waarin zijn inmiddels volwassen zoon een werkkring vond. Tijdens WO.IIwoonde hij te Bad Godesberg. Na de oorlog keerde hij terug naar Belgiëen vestigde zich te Antwerpen waar hij tot zijn dood bleef wonen.
